Milieu Service Nederland

A customer portal giving business clients real-time insight into waste services, invoices, and reports.

Milieu Service Nederland

Milieu Service Nederland (MSN) is the entrepreneurial waste partner for business Netherlands — helping organisations with waste collection, zero waste, and circular operations. As chain coordinator connecting clients with 100+ collection and processing partners, they needed a digital layer that matched the ambition of their platform.

The challenge

Customers had no way to manage things digitally. Need an extra container or a collection? Call the service desk, and a service agent would relay the request to the executing partner. Meanwhile, demand for digital self-service was growing: insight into waste reports, digital invoices, collection calendars, and the ability to request services without picking up the phone.

MSN serves larger companies with multiple locations and bespoke contracts. The portal had to reflect that complexity — per-location services, contracts, user permissions, and real-time visibility into what was actually happening in the field.

What we built

We built MijnMSN, a customer portal on Next.js with an app-like look and feel — animated page transitions, a mobile tab bar for thumb-friendly navigation, and a PWA setup that feels native on any device.

Behind the portal sits a backend for frontend on AWS. Data flows in from multiple sources: backoffice and customer records in Mendix (built by Webflight), and products and services from local waste processors. A Cognito user pool provides single sign-on across it all. The BFF serves everything through GraphQL APIs to the portal.

On the partner side, we digitised the supplier interface too — connecting partners at different levels of technical maturity, from modern API integrations to Excel uploads and manual entry.

Result

Customers now have real-time insight into service delivery and can request services themselves. Invoices, collection calendars, environmental reports, and waste overviews are available on demand. Per-location user management gives clients control over who sees what — without calling the service desk.

A faster, more efficient service experience for MSN's customers, and a foundation MSN can keep building on as they push toward a waste-free, CO2-neutral Netherlands.
